This Is How We Roll 31/01/09

Two Teams of Air Cadets from 90 (Speke) Squadron continue the Squadron's sporting success, being crowned champions of the Merseyside Wing's 'Senior Male' and Female 5 a Side Football competitions.

Arriving at the squadron at half past seven was just one of the forth coming challenges in store for the Boy’s senior and Girl's 5- a side teams on Sunday the 25th of January.

After the lad's beat Prescot 5-0 in their first game and the girls winning their first game 6-0, both teams started the day on a high, sailing through the group stages to the semi-finals.

It was a glorious day in terms of weather but also in terms of success for 90 (Speke) Squadron at the event held at Everton Park, Liverpool.

Both teams had difficult opposition to face in the semi-finals. Although the lad's team had a very difficult time putting the ball in the goal against Crosby, they never the less still managed to put 4 balls in the back of the net while only conceding 2 themselves.

The girls also had a challenging game against Woolton in their semi final but once again came out on top, going on to join the male team in the finals.

Both teams were an absolute credit to one another, giving each other support throughout the competition, most notably during the finals when it was most needed.

Prescot Squadron wasn’t going to be beaten that easily and worked hard to keep the scores even, carrying the game through to extra time, but the girls team kept fighting and scored a brilliant goal in the last few minutes, winning their competition and ensuring gold medals all around.

Final
A tough final against Prescot, but 90 Squadron prevailed!

Similarly, the male team finished with an impressive scoreline against Huyton Squadron, winning the game 12-1 ensuring the trophy was Speke's to take home.

All the players who came to the competition worked very hard, both in practice and throughout the competition day resulting in the squadron achieving two more trophies to add to their growing collection.

As the Cadets laughed Cadet Tom Holmes added "Some of the games were really tiring, but we'd been practicing alot beforehand so it paid off, as always!"
